Press Release for SCG's
Adventure Perilous Role-Playing Game

Simian Circle Games announced their upcoming tabletop role-playing game titled Adventure Perilous would be released via Kickstarter on August 1st.

Adventure Perilous is written and illustrated by Dirk Stanley who is most known for his Far Away Land Role-Playing Game. Although a standalone game, Adventure Perilous follows in Stanley’s style of rules-lite mechanics, super colorful design, and a focus on openness and sandboxy play. Adventure Perilous has a simple set of core mechanics built on Stanley’s Mere Anarchy game system. The game uses only six-sided dice and math is kept to a bare minimum. These mechanics allow even first-time gamers a quick introduction to the game making it completely accessible to new gamers and even kids. Additional rules included act as modular units complimenting the core and adding additional layers of granularity allowing players to play with what they want and expand outward as they become more experienced. All of this is of course contained within a single book.

One of the many unique elements of Adventure Awesome is the way player characters are created. The game uses a series of descriptors including the heritage (race), personality, and skill of a character. These three words provide a foundation on which players can build any character that interests them in a matter of minutes. This sandboxy approach to design and play can also be seen in the freeform magic system that uses descriptors and effects to generate two words to create the foundation for magical spells. All of these systems reduce bookkeeping and reliance on rules and create an immersive atmosphere for players to experience adventures.

The aesthetics of Adventure Perilous reflect the minimalist mechanics through a minimalist art style, specifically a retro 8-bit look and feel reminiscent of 1980’s video game console graphics. Stanley, along with a handful of other artists, has created a colorful cast of characters, monsters, maps, and scenes that will be immediately recognizable to anyone who has ever played a video game.

Adventure Perilous
will be available to backers in the US and internationally as digital, paperback, and hardback editions. The book is 124 pages and full color. It comes in at 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Additional addons will be included as backer rewards. These addons include hex map tiles for custom maps in the same style as those included in the book and paper miniatures featuring nearly 100 characters along with all of the monster entries from the rulebook.
